Fashion Studies is one of the Career Education programs at SRJC and offers two Certificates of Achievement:
Fashion Fundamentals
The Fashion Studies Program's Fashion Fundamentals curriculum offers students interested in careers in the fashion industry a combination of theoretical and hands-on instruction. Students will be introduced to basic clothing construction techniques, strategies for marketing and presenting apparel, as well as an overview of the history of modern fashion.
This program will prepare students for a variety of entry level jobs in the fashion industry including: design assistant, visual merchandiser, and sample sewer.
Fashion Fundamentals Certificate Requirements
Fashion Design
The Fashion Design curriculum offers students advanced training in apparel design and production including concept development, technical illustration, the creation of original patterns through to patternmaking and draping, and more advanced construction techniques using knit fabrics.
This program will prepare students for a variety of occupations including: assistant designer, apparel business owner, production manager, sample room coordinator, pattern maker, sales assistant, fabric buyer or visual merchandiser.
Fashion Design Certificate Requirements
Fashion Design AA
The Fashion Design curriculum is also offered as an AA degree for students who complete additional general education requirements. Be sure to speak with an admissions counselor for guidance on the completion of an AA.
